This installation of outstanding art spans the breadth of the Museum's Permanent Collection. Highlights include Lucas Cranach's Virgin, Child, St. John the Baptist and Angels, 1534, one of the oldest works in the collection; Melchior d'Hondecoeter's magnificent Stripped of Borrowed Feathers: The Raven-Jackdaw, dating from 17th century Holland; and George Grosz's Eclipse of the Sun, 1926, the Heckscher's most renowned work. Other works include neoclassic sculpture by Emma Stebbins and Pierce Francis Connelly, a selection of portraits, and 19th and 20th century landscapes, including work by Marsden Hartley and Marguerite Zorach. The Heckscher is pleased to include in this grouping Helen Frankenthaler's July understated, 1967, on extended loan to The Museum from Philip, Steph, and Charles Heckscher in honor of their parents Mr. and Mrs. August Heckscher II.
