Museum Welcomes New Educators

The Heckscher Museum of Art has announced that Julia Sledge and Kim Zambrano have joined the Education team as K-12 Educators. They will lead students in thoughtful dialogue about art on view and guide them in creating their own art, both in the galleries and at various schools.

Sledge (left) received a BA in Studio Art and Art History from Adelphi University. Her undergraduate studies were concentrated in mixed media/assemblage and her historical research on cabinets of curiosities. She is continuing her education at Stony Brook University, pursuing a dual master’s in art history and business.

“I am so grateful for the ways in which the Heckscher community has so warmly welcomed me and for the joy I have experienced through my role as an educator! My time at the museum has taught me much about myself and the communities and projects the Heckscher team supports and engages with. I feel very fortunate to be part of such a strong, creative and devoted team,” she said.

Kim  Zambrano (right) has a Bachelor of Science in Applied Psychology from New York University and an Associates degree in Liberal Arts from Nassau Community College.  She has worked at Eastern Suffolk BOCES, as well as several non-profits across Long Island.  Zambrano is fluent in Spanish and will lead the Museum’s new bilingual program, Art Explorers Club.

Noted Zambrano: “What I find most rewarding about my role here is the opportunity to engage with a wide array of students, offering them a unique and meaningful experience. By integrating Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) with art education, I am able to enhance their understanding and appreciation during the museum tours, fostering a deeper connection to both the artwork and themselves.”
